As People’s Strength candidate Yoon Seok-yeol was elected as the 20th president, public attention is once once more drawing attention to the promises he made in the field of mobility, which he announced during his time as a candidate.
According to a promise in the mobility sector announced by President-elect Yoon during his candidacy, electric vehicle charging rates will be frozen for the next five years. President-elect Yoon said, “The charge rate for electric vehicles has been continuously increased due to the Moon Jae-in administration’s nuclear-free policy.”
The Moon Jae-in government has continued to reduce special cases for discounting electricity rates for charging electric vehicles. This is because, while lowering the share of nuclear power generation, which has a low unit cost, the share of new and renewable energy generation, such as natural gas, solar power, and wind power, with high power generation cost has been increased. It was a policy that had no choice but to burden KEPCO. The 25% discount rate for the basic rate and 10% discount rate for the electricity rate, which took effect in July last year, will also be abolished in July this year.
President-elect Yoon plans to change the stance of the Moon administration by 180 degrees and actively foster the nuclear power plant industry with a low unit cost of power generation through the nuclear power plant. Restart nuclear power plants that have been shut down immediately. Through this, the charging rate is maintained at the current level of 300 won per 1 kWh.

President-elect Yoon plans to expand the charging infrastructure, which is pointed out as the biggest obstacle to expanding the spread of electric vehicles. If there is no problem with safety by easing restrictions on gas stations and LPG charging stations, the company will install charging infrastructure and install fuel cells inside and outside gas stations to produce and supply some of its own electricity.
The introduction of exclusive license plates for corporate vehicles was also announced as a pledge. The president-elect Yoon explained, “The purpose is to regulate expedient and tax evasion practices that use supercars worth hundreds of millions of won as corporate vehicles.”
