German automaker Volkswagen has recently announced its all-electric ID Buzz, a modernized version of the iconic “Heppy” camper van from the 1960s, which is scheduled to be launched later this year.

The most prominent specifications of the new car is that it accommodates five passengers, including the driver, and has an additional space that can accommodate a lot of luggage.

The car also offers the “Car2X” feature, which uses signals from other vehicles and transportation infrastructure to detect hazards in real time, and the “memory function” that allows automated parking on a previously saved route.

In this context, Volkswagen is betting that the five-seater truck will be part of the “future of urban transportation”, where the journeys of those vehicles that impress passengers are talked regarding, through various applications.

The ID Buzz premiered at the Detroit Auto Show in 2017, with a promise to go on sale by the company in 2022, a date that Volkswagen has already met.

Also, Europe will receive the first shipments of the car in the fall, and pre-orders can be submitted in some countries, including the United Kingdom, from next May, and although prices have not been confirmed yet, there are reports indicating that they may start at around $52,263.

Volkswagen also announced a second version of the model called ID Buzz Cargo, which features the ability to carry more heavy loads, will be available until 2025 and may cost 65,317 USD.

“ID Buzz is a true symbol of the electric age, a car that only Volkswagen can manufacture,” said Ralf Brandstätter, chairman of the company’s board of directors. Fully networked, it’s now ready for the next big chapter: autonomous driving.

According to Volkswagen, the ID Buzz has an iconic front with a V-shaped front panel between the LED headlights and a two-tone paint job, and the rear seats can be folded down to save more space.

The German company revealed that the car has a 77 kWh battery, which should achieve a range of 250 miles before drivers need to recharge, and the 170 kW charging also means that the car battery can be charged from 5 to 80% in 30 minutes.

In the carbon-free electric car, the company provides a 5.3-inch screen next to the driver’s line of sight, to provide information including the current speed, the remaining range on the electric battery and other information.
