The American oil giant ExxonMobil believes that electric cars She is the future.
ExxonMobil predicts that by 2040, every new car sold in the world will be electric, according to CEO Darren Woods.
That compares with just 9% of all new passenger car sales in 2021, including plug-in hybrids, according to market research firm Canalys. This number is 109% more than in 2020, according to “CNBC”, which was reviewed by Al-Arabiya.net.
In light of its determination, Woods said, ExxonMobil is assessing how the decline in gasoline sales might affect its business. Exxon Mobil is one of the world’s largest publicly listed energy companies and an industry leader.
Its website prides itself on being the largest petroleum products refining and marketing company, as well as a chemicals company.
Woods, who has spent part of his career in the chemical side of the company’s operations, said the chemicals will be key to maintaining the company’s profits during the transition to clean energy. ExxonMobil’s plastics can be used to make electric cars.
The giant oil company’s calculations predicted that the demand for oil in 2040 would be equivalent to what the world needs in 2013 or 2014. Woods explained that the company was still making profits at that time.
Woods seemed unfazed by the prediction, saying, “This change is not going to make or break this business or this industry quite frankly.”
