Elections in Liguria. Appeal from 5 cultural associations: ‘Participation in the vote for Orlando as president’. 2/Tajani in Genoa and bodyguard. Rai operator beaten and journalists insulted

For the first time after many years, a regional meeting of political culture associations has taken place which has expressed this document which we ask you to pay particular attention to and disseminate.

THE LIGURIAN POLITICAL CULTURE ASSOCIATIONS LAUNCH AN APPEAL TO PARTICIPATE IN THE VOTE FOR ANDREA ORLANDO AS PRESIDENCY OF THE REGION.

In view of the elections of 27/28 October 2024 the political culture associations: “Le Radici e le Ali di Genova”, “Red è non il Nero” of Savona, “Circolo Pertini di Sarzana e La Spezia”, “Sanremo Insieme”, “Ligurian School and Constitution”expressing their specificities and strong autonomy, decided to meet and sign an appeal to other associations and citizens for strong participation in the vote given the exceptional nature of the situation that has arisen in Liguria. We are going to early elections due to the explosion of a significant “moral question” which led to the arrest and resignation of the leaders of the Port and the Region and the plea bargaining of the sentence with the Court.

This situation adds to a difficult situation for our Region, due to the demographic decline that has been underway for some time, the economic, social and infrastructural marginalization of our territory, the deterioration of essential services (health, training, social services, transport).

We cannot, in these conditions, remain indifferent or absent, because it decides for all of us and for the future of Liguria.

  • The first question that arises is to re-establish the legality and transparency that has been obscured by an arrogant system of power.

  • Together, a vision of the future of Liguria must be built, overcoming its isolation, relaunching sustainable development, curbing the flight of young people from the region, guaranteeing safety at work, help for the most fragile sections of the population, social and territorial inclusion ; support for cultural activities, the School and the University.

  • The Ports, even in Liguria, must have autonomous and authoritative presidents. It is up to the system authorities to define the Port Master Plans and assign concessions without suffering pressure and interference.

  • We know that everything cannot be done in a short time but we must demonstrate that we want to go in that direction. We know that the resources and capabilities of the Municipalities and the Region are not sufficient. This is why in the vote we also express the request for a turning point at a national level that puts the environment and ecological reconversion at the centre, a new and sustainable industrial policy, the choice for a fairer society, the investments necessary for these objectives.

  • For all of us, the fundamental issue is the relaunch of democratic and popular participation so that citizens are not considered subjects and so that they take responsibility for choices. The reactions of many citizens in the cases of the Savona Vado regasification terminal and various open issues in Genoa (chemical depots, skymeter, etc.) demonstrate both the attempt to impose choices from above and the importance of mobilization “from below”.

This is why we indicate the vote for an alternative Region that the center-left and its candidate for President, Andrea Orlando, declare they want and pursue.

2/ELECTION CAMPAIGN, TAJANI IN GENOA: A RAI OPERATOR HIT AND REPORTERS PUSHED. THE LIGURIAN JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION: “VERY SERIOUS MATTER, FULL SOLIDARITY WITH THE WORKERS”

Press release – The Ligurian Association of Journalists firmly condemns what happened yesterday late afternoon (1 October 2024), in Genoa, on the occasion of the minister’s visit Antonio Tajani. “During an election campaign event in Genoa attended by the Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani – we read in a press release from the Cdr of the TgR Rai Liguria – an operator who works for Rai was hit in the eye by an elbow of one of the bodyguards of the secretary of Forza Italia. Several reporters and colleagues on site spoke of being pushed and insulted by the same bodyguards. The cdr of TgR Rai Liguria strongly condemns what happened, a serious episode in which the press – moreover to an event where the journalists had been invited by the organizers themselves – was treated without any respect and even resulted in an operator being injured, to whom we extend our utmost solidarity”. Assostampa Ligure expresses full and total solidarity with all the workers involved and recalls that not only the right to freedom of the press but also the right of citizens to be informed are irrepressible rights.
