Governor Juan Schiaretti has been giving signals to build a new national space that differs from the Frente de Todos and Juntos por el Cambio. This Tuesday, he took another step in that direction by meeting with the former governor of Salta Juan Manuel Urtubey, with whom they agreed to continue advancing, and eventually even to compete in the Paso for a presidential candidacy.
The provincial president had lunch this Tuesday at the Casa de Córdoba in the Federal Capital with the former governor of Salta, one of the Peronist leaders with whom Schiaretti has been in dialogue for more than a year with the aim of leading a new national space.
After the meeting there was a statement from the consultant that answers to Guillermo Seita, a trusted man of Schiaretti.
“Both leaders agreed to advance in the construction of a superior political space, outside the crack,” the communication indicated.
However, then there were some definitions that were relativized from Schiaretti’s environment.
“Both expressed their decision to be candidates for president and compete within this new space, including those who want to integrate that non-Kirchnerist Peronist proposal. The decision is not to compete in a Paso with Kirchnerism, nor with the Frente de Todos,” the statement stressed, taking for granted the launch of the Cordovan governor and the former president of Salta.
When this information was on all the national portals, from the Civic Center they took pains to relativize the issue of the launch.
“There was a meeting with Urtubey. Several issues were discussed, but politically, the central thing is that first you have to build a project to show the Argentines and then the proper names,” explained a provincial official who was not in the Federal Capital, but who spoke with Schiaretti to clarify the situation.
“When the governor launches himself as a presidential candidate, it will be done differently,” added the schiarettista official, trying to moderate the content of the statement.
Those who know Schiaretti’s way of working were struck by the carelessness with which this new step was communicated in the alleged national installation of Cordoba.
Until last week, Schiaretti had been maintaining that he aspired to form another national space, but he avoided talking regarding applications. “It will be seen in due course. This is not the time to talk regarding candidacies ”, he replied every time he was consulted on the subject.
Hence, even the schiarettistas themselves, who have no influence on the national positioning strategy, were surprised by the content of the statement.
On the other side, from Urtubey’s environment they preferred not to argue with the issue of launching presidential candidacies, but they stressed that the idea is to add more leaders and candidates to “strengthen the new space.”
Construction of another space
In the brief statement, beyond the question of the launch, later relativized, Schiaretti and Urtubey made it clear where they stand on the national stage: far from the ruling Frente de Todos, but also from the opposition alliance Juntos por el Cambio.
“We are not going to go anywhere with Kirchnerism, nor with the Frente de Todos,” the statement said.
“Nor with Together for Change. When it says space to overcome the crack, it also includes Together for Change”, added Schiarettista sources.
Since the Frente de Todos assumed national power, on December 10, 2019, Schiaretti has always marked his differences with the ruling party, but also with the opposition.
“Cristina Kirchner and Mauricio Macri failed in their efforts and benefit from the political rift that is affecting the country,” the provincial president usually says.
However, in his political definitions, the governor is usually harsher with the national government than with the opposition.
strategy and construction
Schiaretti and Urtubey decided to give a signal in the midst of the strong struggle between the Government and the opposition, following the decision of President Alberto Fernández to promote a political trial once morest the Supreme Court of Justice.
This move by the head of state generated noise among the Peronist governors, several of whom refused to support the attack once morest the judiciary.
For the schiarettistas, the drastic request for impeachment once morest the highest court forced several Peronist leaders to put a limit to the attacks of Kirchnerism.
“It is time to show an alternative to the governors. ‘El Gringo’ has been talking to several of them and there may be news soon”, say the schiarettistas.
The main political objective of the meeting this Tuesday between Schiaretti and Urtubey was to give a concrete signal to Peronist governors, and also to radical leaders that there is another opposition space, without interference from macrismo.
This is a nod to leaders such as the radical deputy Facundo Manes, launched as a presidential candidate within Together for Change, with whom Schiaretti is excited to share a new political space. For that, the neurologist should leave his party.
