The first round of the presidential election in Slovakia is behind us. Slovak elections are one-day, all polling stations closed on Saturday at 22:30. The final election results showed that the favored candidates Ivan Korčok and Peter Pellegrini advanced to the second round, which takes place on April 6. Korčok won 42.5 percent of the vote. The second Pellegrini received 37 percent of the votes. The other candidates finished far behind them.
The first round of the presidential election in Slovakia had two clear favorites from the start. They are the chairman of the HLAS-SD party Peter Pellegrini and the diplomat Ivan Korčok. Polls correctly predicted that the mentioned pair would advance to the second round. The preferences of the other candidates were much lower, among others the former President of the Supreme Court Štefan Harabin, the former MP Marián Kotleba or the former Prime Minister Igor Matovič. In mid-June, the winner of the second round of the presidential election will replace the current president of Slovakia, Zuzana Čaputová, who is not defending the office.
