Strasbourg – After the UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Türk, another Austrian is aiming for a top job in the field of human rights: The Viennese international lawyer Manfred Nowak is running in the election of the Council of Europe’s Human Rights Commissioner on Tuesday in Strasbourg. Nowak was “very confident” in advance, but referred to strong competition from the Bulgarian former European Minister Meglena Kuneva and the director of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency Michael O’Flaherty.
