Election Commission’s letter to the Foreign Office to invite foreign observers to monitor the elections

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has sent a letter to the Foreign Office to invite foreign observers to monitor the general elections. This development comes 3 months after the Election Commission announced that foreign observers would be appointed to monitor the upcoming general elections.

On Tuesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan changed its mind and sent a letter to the Foreign Office asking them to take all necessary steps to invite international observers.

In a letter sent by Election Commission Additional Director General Media Wing Haroon Shinwari to the Foreign Secretary, it has been stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan intends to send invitations to international observers/media through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under Section 238 of the Election Act 2017. keeps

The letter sent by the Election Commission to the Foreign Secretary further stated that the Election Commission believes in the open door policy and welcomes an observation mission for the upcoming general elections as soon as possible.

The letter states that suggestions from the Ministry of External Affairs regarding formulation of clear policy guidelines and SOPs regarding the proposed invitation for international observers related to the elections to be held in Pakistan would be welcomed.

This letter was sent by the Election Commission of Pakistan to the Foreign Secretary immediately after the decision taken in the meeting presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.
