Election Amendment Act 2024 was also challenged in Lahore High Court – Pakistan

After the Supreme Court, the Election Amendment Act 2024 has also been challenged in the Lahore High Court.

Citizen Mashkoor Hussain filed a petition in the Lahore High Court through Nadeem Sarwar Advocate, in which the Federal Government, Election Commission, President and Prime Minister have been made parties.

It was argued in the petition that 4 amendments were made in the Election Act to overturn the Supreme Court’s decision, the amendment act was passed without discussion and approval of the concerned committee.

The petition requested that the court declare Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the Election Act 2024 null and void and stay the implementation of the amendment act till the final decision on the petition.

The Election Act Amendment Bill was passed by the Senate after the National Assembly, the opposition’s decision to go to the Supreme Court

It should be remembered that on August 7, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had challenged the Election Amendment Act in the Supreme Court.

On August 6, the Election Act Amendment Bill was passed by a majority vote in the National Assembly amidst noise and commotion by the opposition.

The bill to amend the Election Act 2017 by the government members was approved by the National Assembly, the bill was jointly presented by Muslim League (N)’s Bilal Azhar Kayani and Zeib Jafar.
