Eugene (USA): Malayali star Eldos Paul made history in the World Athletics Championship in the triple jump final. Eldos also became the first Indian player to reach the final in the event in the World Championship. Eldos secured the final by jumping 16.68 meters in the second attempt of the qualifying round. The 25-year-old entered the final as one of the top 12 performers. Eldos covered 16.12 meters in the first attempt. 16.34 meters in the third attempt. Eldos finished sixth in Group A. Eldes had won gold in the Federation Cup held in April this year with a jump of 16.99 meters. This is also the best individual performance of the actor. Praveen Chitraveli, who competed in Group A with Eldos, failed to qualify. Chitravel jumped 16.49 meters and finished eighth. Abdullah Abubakar, who landed in Group B, also disappointed. Pao Nurmi bettered his own record by throwing 89.30 meters at the Games in Finland last month. He improved the record by throwing 89.94 meters in the Diamond League held in Sweden. After Neeraj, India’s 21-year-old Rohit Yadav also entered the final. Rohit secured the final by throwing 80.42 meters in his first attempt in Group B. The actor finished in sixth place.
Rohit’s second throw was fouled. The last eight was 77.32 meters. His career-best performance was at the National Inter-State Championships held last month when he won silver with a throw of 82.54m. It is the first time in the history of the World Athletics Championships that two Indians have reached the final in any event. Kothamangalam: A proud moment for Kothamangalam and Mar Athanasius College as Eldos Pole becomes India’s triple jump hope at the World Athletics Championships. Eldhos is the first Indian athlete to qualify for the triple jump final at the World Athletics Championships.
He qualified for the final by jumping 16.68 meters in the qualifying competition held yesterday morning. The finals will start at 6 am on Sunday, Indian time. He is one of the nine Malayalees to play for India in athletics.
