An 85-year-old woman with dementia in Singapore was found by her family to have multiple bruises on her arms and body. According to the South China Morning Post, 35-year-old foreign domestic helper Indah Nur Wahyuni was hired to take care of the 85-year-old mother of a woman named Yang in January this year. However, she was found to have beaten the old woman on March 8 and denied the abuse. , it was not until Yang Nu expressed that she wanted to take her mother to have her injuries examined that she admitted to taking action. In the two days from March 6 to 7, there is an 11-minute video of Wayouni repeatedly shaking and violently pushing the old woman’s head with her hands, and beating her back, forehead and arms several times.
After the court broadcast, the judge angrily denounced Vayuni, who was arrested on August 29 after being placed by an agency, for abusing a vulnerable old woman who could not speak or protect herself, and for abusing her employer’s trust in her. This behavior cannot be tolerated. . However, although the judge emphasized that “the law must severely punish home caretakers who abuse care recipients,” Wayouni pleaded guilty in advance and sentenced her to 4 months in prison for intentional injury.
This crime is punishable by up to 3 years in prison and a fine of 5,000 Singapore dollars (approximately NT$117,000), and if it harms vulnerable groups such as elderly people with dementia, the prison term can be doubled to 6 years.
