An elderly person and her husband had the fright of their lives last weekend in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. The retiree might have died there. On two occasions, people fired numerous shots into the front of his house. This twice.

The first episode of shooting occurred on the night of Friday to Saturday, the second on the night of Saturday to Sunday. Each time in the same facade. We are talking regarding several dozen shots. The information is confirmed by the police. Which refers to the Brussels public prosecutor’s office for the details.

According to our information, two thugs would have tumbled, aboard a scooter, in the night from Friday to Saturday. Last night, the shooter’s weapon jammed following a few shots. The lights in the target house were off. The next day, several of them arrived. This time, the lights of the target house were on. This double shooting hit the front of the house but several bullets – we are talking regarding a dozen – went through the windows, lodged in the walls of the dining room (see photos). Some passed a few centimeters from the elderly person, obviously in shock.

In reality, the shooters seem to have taken the wrong house, the police think. They fired into the right door but the wrong window, adjacent to the door of the targeted house. The retired couple targeted by the bullets would therefore have nothing to do with this shooting. They filed a complaint with the police for both facts. One of them qualifies as attempted murder because the shooters knew there was someone in the house since the lights were on.

The investigation is ongoing. We do not know the reasons for this shooting but, according to our information, it might be an act of reprisal following a dispute between two families.

Quickly informed of the facts, the mayor of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean Catherine Moureaux went to the bedside of the retired couple. “This is a totally villainous act which targeted two retirees, moreover probably by mistake”, condemns the elected socialist. “The family is in shock. I made sure they were taken care of quickly by the alderman of Housing because it is a communal property. The couple are also supported by the victim support service.”

Catherine Moureaux also asked the police to step up their presence in the neighborhood. Ditto for the prevention agents. “Our town had an incredible festive and dynamic weekend,” says Catherine Moureaux. Who refuses to be “stigmatized Molenbeek-Saint-Jean”.

”I am extremely concerned regarding the upsurge in weapons, necessarily linked to the increase in drug trafficking in Brussels and Belgium. For our area, we have been asking the Minister of the Interior for additional staff for months.
