El Salvador broke the record set last year in Rio de Janeiro for the number of countries participating in the youth surfing world championship, reported the website of the International Surfing Association (ISA).
There are 447 surfers from 54 flags who will be represented in La Bocana and El Sunzal between May 3 and 12. The event will have participants from: Argentina, Australia, Barbardos, Belgium, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Channel Islands, Chile, China, Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, England , Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hawaii, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tahiti, Thailand, Trinidad and Toibago, United States, Uruguay, Ukraine, Venezuela and Wales.
