EL PASO, Texas – A man was taken into custody after barricading himself in a Mission Valley home and pointing a gun at an officer, prompting an officer to shoot him Sunday night, Sept. 8, the El Paso Police Department reported.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. in the 300 block of Ramona Avenue.
Neither the suspect nor the officers were injured in the incident, police said.
Police were initially called to what was described as a “verbal domestic violence” incident, but the situation escalated when police learned the suspect had a gun, they said.
Police said that when they arrived, a 27-year-old man had barricaded himself in the home. Officers began ordering him out of the house and at one point, the suspect pointed his gun at an officer, according to police.
An officer reportedly returned fire. Shortly afterward, the man surrendered and left the home, according to police.
The man is in custody and neither the officers nor the suspect were injured in the incident, police said.
The incident is being investigated by the El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit and its Internal Affairs Department, as well as the Texas Rangers.
