Ekta Kapoor ‘polluting’ minds of young generation: Indian Supreme Court

India’s Supreme Court has warned popular producer Ekta Kapoor that she is ‘polluting’ the minds of the country’s youth.

The apex court made these remarks while hearing petitions filed by the producer challenging the arrest warrant issued by the lower court on his web series ‘Triple X’.

The arrest warrant was issued against Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor for showing scenes in the web series that allegedly insulted soldiers and hurt the sentiments of their families.

The series aired on the over-the-top (OTT) platform ALT Balaji, which is owned by Ekta Kapoor’s company Balaji Telefilms Ltd. and her mother is also associated with the company.

According to Indian newspaper Indian Express, the bench added in its remarks: ‘We have to do something. You are polluting the minds of the young generation of this country. It is available to all. This OTT content is available for everyone.’

He asked the producer: ‘What kind of content are you giving people?’

According to a report by state-run news agency Press Trust of India, Ekta Kapoor’s lawyer argued in court that the content was subscription-based. He further said that consumers have freedom of choice in this country.

The judges said they did not ‘give credit’ to the lawyer who filed the petition in the Supreme Court.

According to him: ‘Every time you come to this court we do not appreciate it. You will have to pay a fee for filing such an application.’

The judges added: ‘Just because you can afford good lawyers and their fees, this court is not for those who have voices.’

While adjourning the case, the bench suggested that Ekta Kapoor’s counsel should hire a local lawyer to know the status of the hearing in the lower court.
