Ups and downs alternate like never before in the western painting tradition

Vienna (OTS/LCG) – Those of art historians Robert Fleck The curated exhibition “Ekrem Yalcindag – Seeing the World Anew” includes more than 70 works from the artist’s current work groups. The unusual surfaces of his pictures unfold a unique effect in the light-filled exhibition rooms. Ekrem Yalcindag is one of the most renowned contemporary Turkish artists and is dedicating the exhibition to his close friend Herman Nitsch (1938 – 2022).

His paintings consist of a mosaic-like network of small, abstract flower shapes that fill the entire picture area. Its raised, relief-like surface is created by the artist applying oil paint a millimeter thick with a miniature brush, leaving fine lines to stand.

“Ups and downs alternate like never before in the western painting tradition,” says Fleck.

The artist needs several weeks to paint a single picture that not only develops visual but also tactile stimuli. “His whole company has a ritual structure. What he does corresponds to a ritual,” wrote Nitsch about Yalcindag’s art

At the center of the exhibition are the works from his latest series of works, “Natures”, which are being shown for the first time. In these large-format pictures, the artist combines his painting with woodblock printing and screen printing, which amounts to a quantum leap in his oeuvre.
