Kai Wissmann (25) played for the polar bears for ten years and won two championship titles. On Monday, the Schwenninger native will fly to Boston/USA and fulfill his NHL dream.

Player observers from the world’s top league had listed the defender at the World Cup in Finland in May and recommended him to the Boston Bruins.

One who has already made the leap into an NHL team is ex-polar bear Lukas Reichel (20). He made 11 straight-off games for the Chicago Blackhawks last season. And Reichel is now keeping his fingers crossed for his former teammate. Lukas: “Kai will make it. I last saw him at the summer training session in Berlin. He was busy in the weight room and on the ice. He has all the prerequisites.”

First of all, Wissmann will be going to the Bruins’ training camp in the coming weeks. After that, the roster for the NHL team is named. The rest has to go to the farm team. Wissmann: “I am very grateful to the polar bears for ten wonderful years. I will always remember the two championships in particular and, of course, the great fans.”

Eisbären sports director Stephane Richer (56) sends the best wishes along the way: “We are very proud and very happy for Kai. He has developed very well in recent years.”
