Attila farewell to Alex Meier |
The last goals from the football god!
Eintracht’s fan curve greeted him as before: “Alex Meier, football god!”
The ex-scorer opened the flood of goals in his farewell game. The 1:0. In the end it was 8:8 – and Meier scored six times! The last goals from the football god!
32,000 spectators remembered the professional soccer player with a heart.
He had ended his career in 2018 and fought back tears on Wednesday evening when CEO Axel Hellmann (51) said: “We are saying goodbye to one of the greatest.”
But Hellmann also believes that Meier will soon be back in front of his fans at the Waldstadion – as a coach. Meier’s second career is just beginning: first with Eintracht’s U17s, now with the U21s. Hellmann: “With his 14 years of experience, Alex will eventually end up in the professional field!”
His farewell game became a big celebration of Meier fun.
Jay-Jay Okocha (49) shook his hips almost like he used to. Tony Yeboah (56) waited for the deadly pass from Uwe Bein (61). Eintracht stars from five decades, from record player Charly Körbel (67) to captain Sebastian Rode (31), played harmoniously.
In addition, the Europa League winners Trapp, Hasebe, Chandler, Hinteregger. And of course Eintracht-Adler Attila. They all made Meier beam with happiness.
And because he was the man of the goals, Meier gets his memorial from Eintracht at the stadium: a wooden goal wall that anyone who brings a ball with them can hit.
Eintracht says to the god of football: Take care, goalscorer – and see you soon, coaches!
