A week after the announcement of the broadcast of the Metropolitans 92 matches – and therefore of Victor Wembanyama – on the NBA app, it’s Scoot Henderson’s turn to take a little light. Eight Ignite Team matches in the Showcase Cup will be shown on the tiny Big League screen.
This Wednesday, the NBA announced that it would broadcast eight Ignite Team matches – and therefore Scoot Henderson, projected n°2 of the 2023 NBA Draft – in the Showcase Cup. These meetings will be found on the NBA application. The eight-game schedule is attached at the bottom of the article, with a first game in the night from Friday to Saturday, at 3 a.m., against the Oklahoma City Blue – and Frenchie Adam Mokoka. This broadcasting method follows the system established to ensure good media coverage of Victor Wembanyama: all Levallois matches are also broadcast on the application, until the end of the Betclic Elite season.
Watching Scoot Henderson is cool, but what’s the competition worth?
The Showcase Cup is an annual event that divides the 30 G League franchises into 4 regional hubs – Central, East, South and West – within which each team plays sixteen matches. The top eight teams (first in each pole, plus the top four “other” teams, regardless of their pole) then advance to the knockout stages. And the knockout phases, well, that eliminates directly. This tournament exists to shine a light on top G League prospects, including big clients in the upcoming draft, as well as former NBA players looking for an upstairs raise. A kind of big fair, a good merguez sandwich at half-time of the match when you’re a player, with however the challenge of individual careers that are emerging.
