A shooting in a center of Jehovah’s Witnesses Thursday night in the German city of Hamburg left eight dead, including the attacker, police said this Friday (03.10.2023).
The attacker fled to the first floor of the building following police stormed in and “committed suicide,” regional Home Secretary Andy Grote said.
“Philipp F. was a former member” of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a senior police officer told reporters, adding that the attacker left the community regarding 18 months ago, “apparently not on good terms.”
Among the fatalities is a seven-month pregnant woman. According to the prosecution, there is no indication of a “terrorist” motivation in the attack.
According to the weekly The mirrorthe perpetrator of the attack is a former member of Jehovah’s Witnesses in his 30s who was armed with a revolver.
The attack occurred during a prayer session organized by this community in its center in Hamburg.
