The conditions of Christian Di Martino, the deputy inspector of the State Police who was seriously stabbed by a 37-year-old of Moroccan origins at the Lambrate station, remain stable. The 35-year-old agent spent a quiet night in the intensive care unit of the Niguarda hospital in Milan, where immediately following the attack he underwent emergency surgery for the injuries to his organs and the resulting serious bleeding. The response to the first stimuli is positive, even if the prognosis remains reserved. Meanwhile, an episode similar to the one that led to the officer’s serious injury was recorded, although with different outcomes. A 36-year-old Egyptian citizen who was throwing stones with a rudimentary slingshot was injured by a gunshot fired by an officer. The man was rescued and taken immediately to the Niguarda hospital where the doctors ascertained that the bullet did not affect vital organs.
The events happened during the night, when at around 2.20 am the Railway Police officers intervened in Piazza Luigi di Savoia because the Egyptian, who had just left the Polfer offices in Milan Central where he had been reported for robbery and resisting a public official, had stopped going into a rage and damaging street furniture. The police attempted to stop him while he was swinging a sort of rudimentary slingshot made of stones closed inside a cloth and brandishing a piece of marble recovered from a slab that he had torn away shortly before. The Egyptian citizen, under the influence of narcotics, lashed out violently once morest the operators who, to protect their own safety and that of others, used the taser supplied in an attempt to interrupt the action and, immediately followingwards, waited for continued to advance, one of the officers fired a service pistol, hitting the man in the left shoulder.
The previous intervention that had led to the 36-year-old Egyptian being reported for robbery and resistance had been carried out outside the station by an Italian Army patrol which had requested the intervention of the Polfer. The Egyptian had robbed a Moroccan citizen who, having been taken to hospital under the green code following the attack he had suffered, had then left the emergency room, losing track of him. The Egyptian citizen, negative in the police database, had already been reported on 24 April 2024 in Belluno as an applicant for international protection with an approved procedure. Previously he had applied to Ascoli, where the application had been rejected due to unavailability.
But just over 24 hours following the episode of the deputy inspector being stabbed in Lambrate, a carabiniere risked his life in Rome, where he was attacked by two men armed with knives. It happened in the Tor Tre Teste area, on the eastern outskirts. The two, both Georgian citizens aged 40 and 42, were then arrested by the military for resisting a public official. After being discovered with a frequency jamming device, used for car thefts, they tried to injure a policeman with a switchblade. The two were then blocked and arrested.
