Egypt – An Egyptian source said on Monday that an American delegation headed by CIA Director William Burns arrived in Cairo at the start of a new round of negotiations aimed at reaching a truce and ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
This came according to what was reported by the Egyptian private channel “Cairo News”, from the source it described as “high-level.”
According to the same source, “the American delegation will meet the Egyptian security delegation at the beginning of a new round of truce negotiations in Gaza.”
The source confirmed that there is “intensive activity by the Egyptian security delegation to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip,” without further details.
In the coming few days, indirect negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian factions movement are expected to be renewed, with the mediation of Egypt and Qatar, to reach an agreement for a ceasefire and prisoner exchange between the two sides, leading to ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
In the context of arrangements to resume these negotiations, an Israeli delegation headed by the head of the General Security Service (Shabak) Ronen Bar began a visit to Egypt on Monday, coinciding with the arrival of an American delegation headed by the Director of the American Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns, to the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
The official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported that the head of the Israeli Mossad, David Barnea, will head to the Qatari capital, Doha, on Wednesday to meet with the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the head of the American Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns, and the head of Egyptian intelligence, Abbas Kamel.
This comes amid internal accusations once morest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of seeking to sabotage current efforts to reach a deal with the factions movement for fear of dissolving the right-wing government and prosecuting him for the “corruption” crimes he is accused of.
For months, mediation efforts led by Qatar and Egypt, along with the United States, have been trying to reach an agreement between Israel and the factions movement that would guarantee a prisoner exchange from both sides and a ceasefire, leading to ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid into the Palestinian sector.
However, mediation efforts were hampered by Netanyahu’s refusal to respond to the demands and movements of the factions to stop the war.
Since October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza with American support, leaving more than 126,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of dozens of children.
Tel Aviv continues the war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolutions to stop it immediately, and the International Court of Justice orders to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
