Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Egyptian presidency announced, on Friday, that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi performed Umrah, on the sidelines of his participation in the Arab summit in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
According to a statement published by the Egyptian presidency, on its Facebook page: “President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi performs Umrah rituals, on the sidelines of participation in the Arab Summit in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and President Al-Sisi visited the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.”
It is noteworthy that Al-Sisi participated in the 32nd Arab Summit in Jeddah, and held many meetings with Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi Crown Prince, Tunisian President Qais Saeed, and Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
Also, television footage showed a side conversation between the Egyptian president and his Syrian counterpart, Bashar al-Assad, before the memorial photo of the leaders participating in the summit, in the first public meeting between the presidents of Egypt and Syria since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis in 2011.
Al-Sisi and Al-Assad chatted for regarding 20 seconds before taking a memorial photo in which they stood side by side.
