The Egyptian Medicines Authority warned once morest using antibiotics as a fever reducer, stressing that this is a “misconception.”
The authority said in an awareness leaflet, “Antibiotics are not used as antipyretics, and this belief is one of the most incorrect forms of use of antibiotics as antipyretics, and this causes a negative impact on health in general, and leads to the formation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.”
She explained that the most common misuses of antibiotics are:
-Stop taking the antibiotic following symptoms improve, and before the period specified by the doctor.
-Using a lower or higher dose than necessary.
-Using antibiotics for a longer period than prescribed by the doctor.
-Using antibiotics without consulting the caregiver.
