Egyptian Intelligence Chief Explodes in Anger.. Report Reveals Behind the Scenes of Gaza Negotiations

Gaza – Sources revealed to the Wall Street Journal details about previous negotiations that took place regarding a ceasefire in Gaza, where the head of Egyptian intelligence, Abbas Kamel, lost his temper due to Tel Aviv’s demands.

The American newspaper said that the US hopes of reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza that could help calm tensions in a region on the brink of a wider war face a major obstacle, noting that everyone seems to agree that the time has come to stop the fighting, except for the two sides who must sign the agreement.

Negotiators and officials on both sides said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian militant leader Yahya Sinwar had resisted reaching an agreement for months, even as pressure mounted for a deal.

Sources familiar with the past negotiations revealed that the atmosphere was extremely tense, to the point that “when the Israeli negotiating team presented Prime Minister Netanyahu’s new demands to secure the strategic passages in Gaza, the head of Egyptian intelligence, Abbas Kamel, lost his temper and exploded in anger.” Kamel then told his team that “Netanyahu is wasting his time.”

But the Egyptian delegation has been preparing again since the start of the new round of talks yesterday, Thursday, in Doha, in order to overcome the remaining obstacles.

A senior Egyptian source pointed out that all developments will be reported to the factions’ movement at the same time by the mediators, since the movement did not participate.

In a message conveyed to Arab mediators on Monday night, Sinwar said that if Israel is serious about negotiations and wants the movement of factions to participate, it must first stop its military operations in Gaza.

Sinwar hinted that he believes this round of talks is just a trick to give Israel extra time to launch its military campaign in Gaza, according to Arab mediators.

Despite all this, the United States, which is mediating the Doha negotiations alongside Egypt and Qatar, said yesterday that the atmosphere was somewhat positive, expressing hope that an agreement would be reached to stop the war.
