Egypt – The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture announced that the competent authorities were able to facilitate the sailing of a truck loaded with 63 thousand tons of wheat from Russian ports on its way to Egypt.
Dr. Saad Moussa, supervisor of the Egyptian agricultural quarantine, confirmed that “the quarantine succeeded in facilitating the sailing of one of the trucks loaded with wheat, carrying regarding 63 thousand tons, which was stuck in the Russian port of Novofresik, following a stop that lasted 3 weeks.”
Moussa said in a statement that “the wheat shipment was inspected by the quarantine in the country of origin and was subject to all phytosanitary procedures and met all the necessary specifications and requirements,” noting that “the agricultural quarantine, in coordination with the commercial representation of the Egyptian embassy in the Russian capital, Moscow, succeeded in facilitating the procedures for sailing the shipment.” It left the port following holding an urgent meeting with the delegation of the Russian Federation present in the Italian capital, Rome.
The supervisor of the agricultural quarantine added: “This comes within the framework of the efforts made by the state to secure Egypt’s imports of strategic goods, the forefront of which is wheat.”
For its part, the importing company thanked the Ministry of Agriculture for “its efforts to end the problem, as the ship was impounded in the Russian port from the first of April until yesterday, and it had already moved to Egypt.”
Over the past months, Russia has supplied Egypt with a huge amount of wheat despite the American and European sanctions and obstacles that desperately tried to obstruct Russia’s exports of grains, energy, and other vital products to the world.
The Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine is a service regulatory body affiliated with the Agricultural Services Authority of the Ministry of Agriculture, and the role of this body includes several matters, most notably the agricultural products that are exported and those that are imported.
