Egypt – Roman Issa, known as the “Emperor of Gold” in Egypt, revealed in his first appearance following his release the details of his involvement in the “Great Gold Case” and the truth regarding the embezzlement of quantities of unsealed gold and the manipulation of market prices.

The aforementioned case involves businessman Hisham Al-Hazq and businessman Abdel Basset Hamza Al-Sudani.

The “Emperor of Gold” said in an interview with “Cairo 24” that the “Hamash” mine was discovered from 1999 to 2019, and that the state is a partner in that mine with a foreign country, and the state’s percentage is 51 percent, and the foreign partners’ percentage is 49 percent.

Roman Issa added that the mine, throughout its operation, produced only 39 kg of pure gold.

He continued, saying, “During the period when I was a partner in the mine, he was able to extract regarding 630 kg of gold in just a year and a half because he used modern methods of exploration and brought in foreign experts to help him.”

The “Emperor of Gold” explained that he was a partner in the “Hamash” gold mine with the Egyptian businessman Hisham Al-Hazq, and they were able to extract large quantities of gold due to exploration with toxic sodium cyanide, which was treated with extreme caution during the period of their partnership in the mine.

Egypt...what did he reveal?

He reported that Hisham Al-Hadeq left them due to disagreements that occurred between them, and that the disagreements extended to judicial disputes that have not ended yet.

Roman Issa stated that since he left the mine, many violations had occurred due to the leakage of the toxic substance (sodium cyanide) because of its danger to the soil and groundwater.

Egyptian media had said that the investigating authorities had released Roman Issa, known in the media as the “Emperor of Gold,” pending investigations into the “Great Gold Case.”

Roman Issa owns goldsmith shops in the Al-Gamaleya area and is one of the largest traders in the market, and one of the partners in gold mines. He was arrested following tens of kilograms of unstamped gold were found in his possession.

Sources had told the “Cairo 24” website that Issa was accused of “committing gold smuggling operations” during the recent period on his behalf.
