A presidential statement said on Saturday that Sisi received a report from the Minister of Youth and Sports regarding a comprehensive evaluation of the performance of all sports federations. Accordingly, he directed that appropriate measures be taken against federations whose members had shown negative behavior that affected the reputation of Egyptian sports. He also directed that participation in games in which Egypt does not have a competitive advantage be limited to promising players.
Al-Sisi directed the implementation of a package of immediate measures, including a precise legal review of the ways in which the financial amounts allocated to the sports federations that participated in all the competitions in the Olympics were spent, and a review of the amount of money granted and allocated to some federations, in relation to the results they achieved in these competitions, to clarify the foundations of the grants, and to set strict controls regarding granting support amounts to them in the future.
He stressed the need to establish foundations for selection by comparing local achievement with its Olympic counterpart and the degree of similarity between them, while reducing the number of technicians and administrators participating in the Olympic mission, in addition to directing the relevant ministries to organize cooperation among them to qualify the best elements to participate in the competitions.
Al-Sisi directed to study providing appropriate support to the federations that achieved advanced positions in the competitions, despite not expecting them to achieve such advanced results, in an effort to develop their performance and enhance their participation in the upcoming tournaments.
The official spokesman for the Egyptian presidency explained that Sisi also directed the competent authorities to review the plan for participation in the upcoming Olympic Games, in light of the proposed controls and other procedures, in a way that ensures the greatest possible achievement from the participating players, and to present the plan to the Council of Ministers to take the appropriate decision regarding it, while directing the government to place amending the Sports Law among its work priorities, in preparation for presenting it at the earliest opportunity to the House of Representatives.
Sisi had directed a comprehensive evaluation of the performance of all sports federations that participated in the Egyptian Olympic mission in the Paris 2024 Games, in an effort to ensure the development of the performance of the sports system, establish the principles of accountability and transparency, and remove any obstacles facing players and all elements of the various games, so that the desired return from participating in the competitions is achieved and the high performance that befits the name of Egypt and pleases its great people is demonstrated.
The directives came after the disappointing performance of the Egyptian Olympic mission, compared to the number of its members and the fact that it is the largest Arab mission in the Olympics, in addition to its large budget, which amounted to 1.1 billion pounds ($22 million).
Egypt won one gold medal in modern pentathlon, one silver in weightlifting, and one bronze in fencing.
