The Egyptian artist, Mohamed Sobhi, has ended the recent controversy over his refusal to present his play “Khibtna” in Saudi Arabia for $4 million, in opposition to its presentation under the banner of entertainment.
Muhammad Sobhi said that the controversy or not is now the same for him, indicating that he closed this file, content with the love and warmth of the feelings of the Arab masses in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and other countries of the Arab world.
Sobhi added that he sees art as a message and its management does not need to create crises that are transmitted to the masses at a time when the Arab countries, with their masses and officials, are seeking unity and rapprochement.
It is reported that the artist, Mohamed Sobhi, had issued a press statement, in which he explained that he did not offend the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as some have promoted, stressing that he refused to show the play in the Riyadh season for 4 million dollars because I wanted to display it under the slogan of entertainment.
The artist Mohamed Sobhi added that he presents a cultural theatrical work that carries a message and content, and an entertaining part, “I told the officials responsible for the Riyadh season that I am ready to present my play for free, but in a framework other than entertainment.”
The Al-Sheikh and Sobhi crisis sparked widespread controversy following Sobhi refused to present his play “Our Disappointment” in the Kingdom for $4 million, in opposition to the work under the slogan of entertainment.
