Egypt recovers sailors’ dues from a company in Saudi Arabia

Muhammad Alyan, head of the Labor Office in Riyadh, explained, according to the Ministry of Labor’s statement on Friday, that in implementation of the instructions of the Minister of Labor to provide and facilitate all services and settle complaints for Egyptian workers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Riyadh Office, in coordination with the Egyptian Consulate, dealt immediately with the sailors’ complaint. It was sent to the Labor Office through the Ministries of Labor and Foreign Affairs, regarding the demands of Egyptian sailors due to the delay in disbursing their financial dues from one of the companies working in the field of oil exploration in the territorial waters of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which used these sailors in some operations and missions with specific timings.

Alyan added that the labor office communicated during the past two months with company officials to settle all the arrears owed to the sailors during their period of work on those ships, which resulted in the success of the efforts in disbursing an amount of 642,014 thousand dollars (six hundred and forty-two thousand and fourteen dollars), equivalent to 31,259,661 pounds. “Thirty-one million two hundred and fifty-nine thousand six hundred and sixty-one Egyptian pounds,” to approximately 100 Egyptian sailors.

The head of the labor office in Riyadh said that the full amounts were transferred to the accounts of the Egyptian sailors, and thus the complaint was settled after the sailors received some of their overdue entitlements.
