Egypt condemns Israel’s escalation and expanded military operations in Lebanon, which have resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries, including women and children, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in comments on Monday.

Egyptian official comments on the escalation that began days ago came after explosions in wireless equipment owned by members and employees of Hezbollah structures in Lebanon.

“Egypt expresses its sincere solidarity with Lebanon and its brotherly people, expresses its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured,” the foreign ministry said, citing Lebanese sovereignty.

Today, Monday, Israel launched violent attacks in southern and eastern Lebanon and other areas bordering Syria, killing hundreds of people and displacing thousands from targeted areas to other, safer areas.

At the same time, efforts are continuing to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and contain the risks posed by war there, the statement added.

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry also called on international powers and the United Nations Security Council to “immediately intervene to stop Israel’s escalating actions in the region, which threaten the fate of the people in the region and the prospects for peace.”

Likewise, Egypt called for “a peaceful resolution of the crisis, an immediate halt to escalation and the start of non-selective implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701, and the provision of opportunities for diplomatic solutions, especially since military escalation will only exacerbate the crisis.”
