Egypt.. Government action regarding the strategic stock of goods as unrest escalates in the Middle East

The Egyptian Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk, confirmed that there are strategic stocks of some basic commodities, including wheat supplies sufficient for local consumption for a period of 5.6 months, and the presence of a strategic stock of sugar supplies sufficient for a period of 15.2 months.

The minister added that the state has a strategic stock of rationing oil sufficient for 7.1 months, a strategic stock of frozen poultry sufficient for 9.9 months, and fresh meat for 7.6 months.

This came during the meeting held by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly with the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk, to follow up on efforts to provide basic goods to citizens and strategic reserves of them.

Madbouly stressed the keenness and continuous follow-up of the issue of the availability of basic commodities in various markets across Egypt, and ensuring the presence of a reassuring strategic stock of them, as well as working to continue pumping these commodities into the markets at appropriate prices.

Madbouly pointed out that there are directives from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to make every effort to provide basic commodities and enhance the strategic reserve of them, to meet the needs of citizens, while making them available in government and food outlets nationwide.

The Egyptian Minister of Supply indicated that the Ministry is making great efforts to enhance the strategic reserve of basic commodities and keep them within a safe range on an ongoing basis.

Farouk stressed the continuation of efforts to make goods available to citizens at various outlets nationwide at reasonable prices.
