Egypt: Ceasefire in Gaza is the key element to stop escalation in the region

Gaza – Egypt considered, yesterday, Saturday, that the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is the “essential element to stop the escalation in the region.”

This was stated by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati, during a press conference in Cairo with his French counterpart, Stephane Le Foll.

The Egyptian minister said, “The ceasefire in Gaza is the essential element to stop the escalation in the region within the framework of a comprehensive deal that guarantees the end of the war.”

Abdel-Ati added: “We have a shared responsibility with France to reduce tension and stop escalation in the region at this sensitive time.”

He pointed out that there is “an Egyptian-French agreement to quickly reach an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, stop the Israeli aggression, and bring in more aid.”

Before the press conference, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday that the two ministers held an expanded discussion session at the ministry’s headquarters in Cairo “that addressed ways to reduce escalation in the region, efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip, and ensuring the access of humanitarian aid to deal with the catastrophic humanitarian situation.”

The French Foreign Minister’s open-ended visit to Egypt comes the day after the mediators announced the end of the two-day Doha negotiations, with a new proposal submitted to the Palestinian factions and Israel to reduce the gaps and hold a new round before the end of the week in Cairo.

This comes as Washington, which is talking about the talks proceeding in a “positive atmosphere,” hopes that reaching an agreement between the factions’ movement and Israel to stop the war and exchange prisoners will help dissuade Iran and the Lebanese factions from responding to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, and the leader Fouad Shukr in Beirut the day before.
