Egypt announces date for return to oil and gas production

Madbouly added that he will meet by the end of the day with the Governor of the Central Bank Hassan Abdullah, the Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk, and the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi to secure the state and the electricity sector’s needs for petroleum products.

The Prime Minister added: “The state, the government and the Central Bank are today bearing a terrible burden to ensure the sustainability, regularity and stability of managing oil shipments. Despite all these challenges, the state is keen to adhere to everything it has promised in this regard.”

He added that the Egyptian government aims in the short term to “achieve a clear vision to restore the country’s production, whether oil or gas, to normal conditions, and there is a very clear plan from the state to return to pre-crisis production levels and even increase them.”

For its part, Shell Egypt intends to drill new wells to increase natural gas production in Egyptian territory.

Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held an extensive meeting via video conference with Dalia El-Gabry, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shell Egypt, in the presence of leaders of the Ministry, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, EGAS, and Shell.

During the meeting, an explanatory presentation was given on the company’s concession areas in Egypt in the Mediterranean, its ongoing and targeted plans to drill new wells to increase natural gas production in those areas and develop the company’s new discoveries, and conduct exploration work to reach new discoveries, as well as its activities in the field of oil marketing, carbon reduction and community development, and the Egyptian LNG project.

Al-Jabri stressed Shell’s keenness to develop its business in Egypt in light of the support and cooperation it receives, noting that the close relations, fruitful work, cooperation and continuous development over 110 years with Egypt are a basic message that Shell believes in. She also pointed to its commitment and cooperation with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).

The presentation witnessed a discussion by the Minister on the progress achieved in its concession areas such as the West Delta Deep Sea (WDDM) area in its tenth and eleventh phases for natural gas production, the North East Amriya area in the Mediterranean Sea to develop the new West Mina discovery and put it into production, the Harmattan Deep Field project in partnership with British Petroleum, the main operator, and exploration work in the new areas, stressing the Ministry’s full support for them in facing any challenges that may arise, and commended the efforts made and Shell’s keenness on its partnership with Egypt and its continuous development and participation in social responsibility programs and the development of surrounding communities, and its strict commitment known for it with regard to implementing all procedures and rules of occupational safety and health and preserving the environment.

The Minister pointed out that the new government is strongly determined to eliminate the challenges that may hinder work and increase production, and a specific plan with specific procedures in this regard will be announced soon, and that the government continues to emphasize working together and achieving the interests of the nation and partners in a way that supports the continuation of the work process and achieving success stories that will be added to the petroleum industry and the national economy.
