Egypt and US Unite to Tame the Fires of Regional Turmoil, A Diplomatic Breakthrough

Egypt – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty discussed with his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken, the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and ways to contain the current escalation in the region.

This came in a phone call that took place between them on Monday evening, according to a statement seen by Anadolu, by Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf.

The statement said that during the call, the two ministers discussed “the successive regional developments in both Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, and the necessity of intensifying coordination and consultation to contain the current escalation in the region.”

He added that Abdel-Ati warned that “the current pace of escalation in the region requires concerted efforts to intervene quickly at this delicate stage to contain the situation.”

He stressed “the need to make diligent efforts to reduce the escalation and urge all parties to exercise restraint, to avoid the region sliding into a regional war with devastating consequences for all its parties.”

According to the statement, Abdel Ati stressed Egypt’s complete rejection of any infringement on Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and stressed the importance of reaching an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire.

He also stressed the need to work to intensify sending urgent humanitarian aid to the Lebanese people in light of the displacement of more than a million citizens, and stressed the importance of “supporting and enabling Lebanese institutions, especially the Lebanese army, to carry out their duties,” stressing the need for all parties to commit to implementing Security Council Resolution No. 1701 with all its components. “.

Security Council Resolution No. 1701, issued on August 11, 2006, calls for a complete cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel, and the establishment of a zone free of weapons and militants between the Blue Line (separating Lebanon and Israel) and the Litani River in southern Lebanon, with the exception of forces affiliated with the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL forces. “Internationalism.

Since last September 23, Israel has expanded the scope of the genocide it is committing in Gaza, to include Lebanon and the capital, Beirut, by launching unprecedented air strikes. It has also begun a ground incursion into southern Lebanon, ignoring international warnings and UN resolutions.

The call touched on the latest developments in the situation in Gaza, given that a full year has passed since the Israeli genocide in the Strip.

Abdel Ati stressed to Blinken the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities in order to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, stressing the importance of introducing humanitarian aid completely and without conditions, and “dealing with the roots of the conflict by establishing an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with its capital as its capital.” East Jerusalem,” according to the same statement.

The genocide carried out by Israel in Gaza with American support has completed its first year, resulting in more than 139,000 Palestinian deaths and injuries, and more than 10,000 missing persons, amid massive destruction and famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly.

Tel Aviv continues the war of genocide, ignoring the UN Security Council’s resolution to end it immediately, and the orders of the International Court of Justice to take measures to prevent acts of “genocide” and improve the miserable humanitarian situation in Gaza.
