Egypt and Saudi Arabia: Intensive contacts to stop the war on Gaza and the West Bank

The Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement that “Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a phone call on Sunday evening with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati to discuss developments in the Palestinian territories after the Israeli army launched a large-scale operation in the West Bank.”

During the call, they discussed “the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, and the enhancement of joint Arab and Islamic action to achieve an immediate cessation of all serious Israeli violations, and support for ensuring the establishment of a secure and stable Palestinian state.”

The call between the Egyptian and Saudi foreign ministers came hours after a phone call between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, in which they discussed developments in the Palestinian territories, in an attempt to reach a ceasefire in the Palestinian territories.

The call addressed developments in the Palestinian territories, where the Saudi Crown Prince stressed “the necessity of exerting all efforts, Arab and Islamic, to stop the escalation and the ongoing Israeli violations against the brotherly Palestinian people,” according to what was reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The Egyptian presidency indicated that during the call between President Sisi and Prince Mohammed bin Salman, “the strength of the historical fraternal relations between the two brotherly countries was emphasized, and discussions were held on regional conditions and ways to enhance joint Arab action to confront the challenges that affect regional security and peace.”

The two parties also stressed the need to reach an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and stop the escalation in the West Bank, which would contribute to preventing the expansion of the conflict and restore stability to the region.

The situation in the Palestinian territories is witnessing a significant increase in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

For the fifth consecutive day, the Israeli army continued a large-scale military operation in several towns and refugee camps in the northern occupied West Bank, resulting in Palestinian deaths and injuries.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz said on Wednesday, August 28, that the threat in the West Bank must be dealt with in the same way as the Gaza Strip, coinciding with the start of the West Bank operation.

The Palestinian presidency said, “The Israeli aggression on the West Bank is a continuation of the comprehensive war on our people, our land, and our holy sites. It is a dangerous escalation for which Tel Aviv and Washington bear responsibility.”
