Egypt.. Al-Sisi changes the seat of a government that has been entrenched since the Fatimid era

Egypt – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was sworn in as President of Egypt yesterday, Tuesday, from the new parliament building in the New Administrative Capital, ending the era of the reins of government in Cairo.

The seat of government in Sisi’s third and new term is scheduled to move to the new administrative capital, after 1,150 years in which the seat of government remained in the city of Cairo since the Fatimids entered the country in the year 969.

Cairo has been an incubator for the reins of government since it was built by the Fatimids in the last third of the tenth century AD. Al-Sisi moved the seat of government for the first time since Jawhar al-Sikli ordered the inauguration of Cairo, as Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi took the constitutional oath in the new capital.

This marks the beginning of the official inauguration of the new republic, and the first move to the capital of Egypt in about 1,150 years.

In the year 969 AH, Jawhar al-Siqilli decided to build a city to be the capital of the government and its reins north of the city of Fustat. He built it in three years and called it Al-Mansuriyya. Then the Fatimid Caliph Al-Muizz Lidin Allah came on 7 Ramadan 362 AH = June 11, 972 AD, and made it the capital of his state, and called it Cairo.

He stayed in the palace built by Jawhar, and on the second day he went out to receive his well-wishers. From then on, Cairo became the seat of the Fatimid Caliphate, and its subordination to the Abbasid Caliphate was cut off. Its area was about 340 acres.

Al-Saqilli later set about establishing the Al-Azhar Mosque, which influenced its development and the stabilization of its foundations. The capital was surrounded by a mud-brick wall and had doors in its various directions, the most famous of which are Bab Zuwailah, Bab al-Nasr, and Bab al-Futouh. Al-Muizz did not live long in Cairo to witness the fruits of what his hands had accomplished, and he was the first caliph. Fatimid ruled his state from Cairo, his new capital.

The historic Cairo region includes the areas of Fustat, ancient Egypt, the central region, which includes Al-Qata’i, the Tulunid royal city, the citadel area, Al-Darb Al-Ahmar, the Fatimid nucleus, the port of Bulaq, and the Jayyoushi Mosque.

The area was included on the World Heritage List in 1979, based on the recommendation of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).

As for the new capital, it was announced to be implemented in 2016 on an area of ​​220,000 acres east of Cairo, with the aim of relieving pressure on the city of Cairo and urban expansion in the Eastern Desert in a planned and civilized manner.

According to circulated information, the area of ​​the presidential residence is 50 thousand square meters, while the general area of ​​the palace site, which is surrounded by an external wall, is estimated at 2.3 million square meters.

Since the first day of the announcement of the Administrative Capital, the attention of investors has turned to it, and the city has embraced the most luxurious hotel brands around the world, led by Hilton, Marriott, and St. Regis, which confirms the city’s great future, as Egypt plans to transform it into a global tourism center that relies on different types of tourism, most notably conference tourism. And shopping tourism, educational and medical tourism, through the establishment of many international universities, led by the University of Hertfordshire, Coventry University, and Canada’s Prince Edward University.

Among the prominent neighborhoods is the third neighborhood, R3, which is being implemented by the Urban Communities Authority and provides 24,000 units from 697 buildings on an area of ​​1,000 acres, and is divided into eight neighborhoods that include all commercial, administrative, and recreational services, as well as the fifth neighborhood, the new Garden City, which simulates Khedive Cairo. Its area is 1,000 acres and includes 295 A building, 105 villas, 175 townhouses, 11 towers, and 96 mixed housing buildings, in the Seventh District, and it is fully implemented by investment companies.

As for the government district, its area is 550 acres, and includes 36 buildings, including 34 for ministries, one for parliament, and the other for the presidency of the government. It was implemented by 18 large national companies under the supervision of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, and the Parliament building has an area of ​​19 acres. As for the central business district, it includes 20 towers, including the highest iconic tower in the city. Africa with a height of 400 meters and investments of 3 billion dollars.

The Embassy District is being built on an area between 1,500 and 1,600 acres, and the area of ​​each embassy is between 1 acre and 24 acres, depending on demand. The Sports City is being implemented by the Ministry of Youth at a cost of 2.2 billion pounds on an area of ​​92 acres, and includes an area for covered halls, a swimming pool complex, an area for five- and large-scale football fields, and multiple playgrounds. For purposes, a hockey field, changing rooms, tennis courts, an integrated area for children, a cultural and entertainment area, a theatre, a social building and an administrative building.
