“Efforts by Senegal’s Government in Improving Wages and Benefits for the Working Class”

Between the needs of workers and what is visibly reasonable and feasible, there is, according to the Head of State, a big gap. Macky Sall will have taken a good ten minutes to remind the central trade unions of the effects in terms of salary increases. President Macky Sall will not go back to 2012 to quantify the efforts concerning the salary increase, but between 2021 and 2022, the government of Senegal has made efforts in several sectors: revaluation in the health sector, action social, drivers for the incentive bonus with a 100% increase which has already been effective since May 2022, the revaluation for other public officials of the State, among others. Thus, given these efforts in several sectors, the President of the Republic considered that the workers should logically not put forward grievances concerning even the revaluation of wages. “Moreover, workers need to know that millions of Senegalese and others in different sectors must be taken into account. We are obliged to strike a balance in order to meet the needs of populations in general,” President Macky Sall reminded the workers.
