BECHAR – The Minister of Hydraulics, Taha Derbal affirmed, Sunday in Béchar that the efforts of his department go in the direction of the sustainability of the public service and the sustainable management of water resources.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of the water transfer project from the Menounet well field to Abadla, Mr. Derbel said that “the objective is to continue efforts to ensure the sustainability of the public service and the sustainable management of water resources, and this, through the continued development of hydraulic infrastructures in order to meet the needs of the populations, particularly in terms of drinking water supply”.
This project, which now allows the daily transfer of a quantity of 7,600 M3 of water from five (5) boreholes, thanks to a 40 km pipe network, will put an end to the disturbances recorded in the wilaya in terms of distribution of drinking water, according to the explanations provided to the ministerial delegation.
It is part of a program to drill regarding ten boreholes through the municipalities of Béchar and Beni-Ounif, with an overall financial envelope of 950 million DA, the same source added.
The Minister inquired, during his working visit, of the pace of the works for the construction of the new wastewater treatment and purification station (WWTP) in the town of Béchar.
This WWTP, whose work is currently at 60% and which will have a treatment capacity of 55,584 M3 per day of wastewater, required a sectoral investment of more than four (4) billion DA.
Due to be commissioned in June 2024, this station “will allow the treatment and purification of wastewater in order to reuse it for the irrigation of the two bordering agricultural perimeters which spread over an area of 2,000 ha dedicated to date palm cultivation and olive growing,” said Ziani Nora, director general of the National Sanitation Office (ONA).
At the end of his two-day working visit to the wilaya, the Minister of Hydraulics kicked off the project to build a water tower with a holding capacity of 25,000 M3 in Béchar.
The operation is part of a program to build three (3) similar facilities totaling a storage capacity of 100,000 m3, with an overall cost of more than two (2) billion DA, we were told. let it be known.
