RB Leipzig made a strong statement at the start of the competitive game and won the German soccer Supercup for the first time. The cup winner defeated the champions Bayern Munich 3-0 (2-0) in the sold-out Allianz Arena on Saturday evening and clinched the first title of the new season. The Spaniard Dani Olmo advanced to the match winner for extremely efficient Leipzig with a hat-trick (3rd, 44th, 68th / penalty).

Xaver Schlager and Nicolas Seiwald won the Austrian duel with Konrad Laimer, all three ÖFB kickers were in the starting XI. Austria’s most expensive footballer Christoph Baumgartner missed his competitive debut for Leipzig after a muscular injury in his thigh. At Bayern, top striker Harry Kane, who had been signed by Tottenham for over 100 million euros a few hours earlier, came on after just over an hour, but was unable to set any decisive accents.

Seiwald replaced ex-Salzburg player Kevin Kampl, who had injured himself while warming up, in the starting XI at short notice. After just three minutes, the newcomer and his teammates were able to celebrate the first goal. Bayern were unable to decisively clear a free-kick cross, Olmo nailed the ball into the net from close range (3′).

18-year-old striker Mathys Tel then missed the equalizer twice from a good position (15′, 24′), while Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan almost scored an own goal (28′). Basically, Bayern recorded more opportunities, but the Saxons acted more efficiently. Olmo let Matthijs de Ligt and Laimer out with a remarkable movement in the penalty area and poked the ball through Sven Ulreich’s legs to make it 2-0 (44′).

At the break, Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel also took Laimer off the field as part of a triple change. Sane failed with a long shot (48th) as did Jamal Musiala in the follow-up (60th). After a little over an hour, the Bayern supporters erupted in cheers for the first time. However, not because of a goal, but because of the substitution of the newly committed Kane.

The English record goalscorer had to see another goal conceded. Seiwald headed the ball to Noussair Mazraoui in the penalty area and Olmo converted the penalty without any problems (68′). At the same time as Kane, Benjamin Sesko, who recently switched from Salzburg to Leipzig, came into play and drew attention to himself with two dangerous shots (88th, 89th). Leipzig took revenge for the 3:5 defeat in last year’s Supercup.
