In the following report, The Consulto reviews the effect of high harmful cholesterol on fertility and pregnancy, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, also known as bad cholesterol, is a potentially negative health condition that affects many vital functions and increases the risk of cardiovascular problems.

Although most people are aware of the dangers of high LDL cholesterol to the heart and circulatory system, the CDC reports that only 1 in 3 adults have cholesterol under control.

The body needs some LDL cholesterol as a way to maintain nerve cells, but when there is too much LDL, the fatty substance can build up on artery walls, which can restrict blood flow and potentially cause heart disease and death.

The effect of high harmful cholesterol on pregnancy and fertility

High harmful cholesterol can affect fertility, and medical research has linked high harmful cholesterol to infertility due to its proven negative effect on blood flow. When cholesterol begins to clog blood vessels and impede blood flow, blood pressure can rise at the same time.

Studies show that it takes much longer for couples with a high level of LDL cholesterol to conceive than for couples with levels within the normal range.

The Centers for Disease Control states that high levels of LDL cholesterol cause:

May reduce semen quality.

Low sperm count.

– Research has shown that high harmful cholesterol is related to hormone levels in the body, and hormones are recognized as an essential component of fertility. When the body does not produce enough certain hormones, there is a small chance of pregnancy.

– When cholesterol rises, the percentage of some hormones in the body is disturbed. The sperm will view the body as a hostile environment, causing the death of sperm.

How can bad cholesterol be controlled to increase fertility chances?

A high level of harmful cholesterol in the body is not considered the only factor for delaying pregnancy, but fertility is affected as a result of many other reasons, but when undergoing tests that reveal an increase in harmful cholesterol, some tips can be taken that help reduce it and increase the chance of pregnancy, as follows:

Drinking a cup of hot water with bee honey daily will help lower cholesterol levels and contribute to getting rid of fat. It can be improved by adding apple cider vinegar or lemon juice.

Replace saturated fats with unsaturated fats, as saturated fats and trans fats can raise levels of harmful cholesterol, while unsaturated fats can lower it.

Consume enough fiber on a regular basis.

Practicing physical activities is one of the most important elements that contribute to controlling cholesterol, and helps to manage weight and get rid of excess kilograms.
