Effects of Construction on Ottomont to Andrimont-Verviers Axis: Challenges and Impacts on Inhabitants and Traders

2023-08-30 16:31:00

In our edition of March 24, the alderman of the Works of Dison had wanted to remain cautious by announcing the end of the work at the end of the summer, it is clear that the date will finally be September 30, 2023. What is the impact for the inhabitants and traders of this important axis linking Ottomont to Andrimont and Verviers? Opinions are mixed whether on the period chosen, the communication operated or the installation of signage on the ground (read below).

A major change in the execution of the work seems to have a greater impact on residents and users of rue de Verviers. Two phases of the project have been combined into one: the work on the concrete ring of the roundabout next to the Château d’Ottomont, which is being carried out at the same time as the rue de Verviers project.

Result ? The complete closure of the crossroads linking Andrimont to Verviers. Note that the Chemin de Sainte-Apolline is open in both directions during the works, “to allow the junction between Dison and Andrimont but if you do not know the district, you do not know it”, testifies a resident. “The road is still accessible, in my opinion because there is the primary school (Editor’s note: the Happy School). The deviations are heavy because if we have to go to Dison or Battice, we have to go down every time in the bottom of Verviers”, underlines another resident.

Marianne, saleswoman at the Boucherie Legras in Andrimont, has seen the clientele decrease since the start of the work. “Usually, at this time of the morning, it does not stop. Here, there is not even a pedestrian or a car. In general, at noon time when the children leave school , there are people who stop. With the bus stops that are postponed, people don’t take the same route. They waste a little time in the detours and they no longer bother to pass. In addition , the signage is not clear because there are drivers who think that the whole street (Albert de t’Serclaes) is one way, this is not the case. It is a pity that it is not there has not been better communication with traders and local residents.”

“With the works, it’s more complicated for our delivery people”

Stéphanie Difalco, originally from Andrimont and sales assistant at the Bernard Lange bakery, a few meters from the works, testifies: “We have not yet been greatly affected because the clientele is mainly that of the district. Until now, I have not we haven’t seen any differences. We’ll see when everything is blocked to let the tarmac dry (Editor’s note: end of September, last stage of the site). The problem is that there are works almost everywhere at the same time, so people are lost. In reality, it was more complicated for our delivery people than for our customers. We had to give them a route to follow. Coming from the neighborhood, it’s quite simple for me”.
