A splinter It is easy to get a splinter, and with it various bacteria get under the skin

If the foreign body is not removed in a timely manner, suppuration may develop.

Before removing a splinter, carefully inspect the place where it entered, preferably with a magnifying glass. You will be able to understand at what angle it entered, and how to proceed further.

If the tip is visible, then treat the hands, the affected area and an auxiliary tool – a needle (it is better to take from a syringe) or tweezers with an antiseptic. Insert the tip of the needle next to the splinter and try to stretch the skin over it. Then pick up the splinter with a needle and push it out.

It is impossible to squeeze out a splinter, compress the skin around: the splinter can go deeper.

Grasp the tip of the splinter with tweezers and drag in the opposite direction to how the splinter entered the skin, observing the angle of inclination. Then the splinter will not break. Treat the wound with an antiseptic and seal it with a bactericidal plaster.

If you cannot remove the splinter with a needle, you can use other means:

Scotch. This method is perfect for removing a large number of small splinters. Cut off a piece of tape and stick it on the damaged area, but do not press it very tightly once morest your hand so as not to drive the splinters deeper. Carefully tear off – and you will see how many splinters are left on the tape. Repeat the procedure several times to completely free the skin from foreign objects.
Salicylic patch. It is applied for a couple of days, periodically changing. Over time, the splinter will either come out completely or rise to the surface of the skin and you can easily remove it with tweezers.
PVA glue. Ideal for children’s splinters. It is difficult to make a child sit still while you wield a needle or tweezers. Just smear the injured area with glue, and following it dries, remove it with a film. If the splinter is shallow, it will come out easily.

If the splinter is large, settled deep, went under the nail, ended up next to the manhole, caused inflammation – contact the emergency room.
