Effective Barrier Gestures for Combating Winter Viruses: Public Health France Recommendations

“A significant proportion of French people have not adopted barrier gestures, although they are effective in combating winter viruses,” lamented Public Health France on Friday December 22.

While the end of year celebrations rhyme with promiscuity, health authorities are calling for vigilance. A few hours before the start of the Christmas festivities, Public health France was reminded, this Friday, December 22, that “the systematic adoption of barrier gestures by all is essential”.

“A significant proportion of French people have not adopted barrier gestures, although they are effective in combating winter viruses,” laments the institution in a press release published on its site.

“Together, let’s remobilize”

She recommends wearing a mask as soon as symptoms appear in busy places and in the presence of vulnerable people, washing your hands frequently, regularly ventilating your home, sneezing into your elbow, or even using a single-use tissue. Recommendations which have not changed since the start of the Covid-19 health crisis, but hammered out during the holidays, an important moment of mixing of the population.

“The end of the year is ideal for family and friendly gatherings which expose different generations to winter viruses. Together, let’s remobilize ourselves, around barrier gestures,” calls Dr Caroline Semaille, Director General of Public Health France, in this press release.

Public Health France also asks people at risk to protect themselves “by resorting to vaccination” once morest seasonal flu and Covid-19.

Do several tests

“When you are negative at the start of the symptoms, it is better to repeat a test within three to four days,” adds Marie-Andrée Weiss, pharmacist in the town of Ebersheim (Bas-Rhin), interviewed by BFMTV. She also recommends “refraining” from going to any family gathering in the event of contamination “if there are fragile people”.

A warning which comes at a time when France is crossed by different viruses actively circulating in the country. Covid-19 continues to record a significant wave, according to the results of December 20 of Public Health France, but “shows signs of stabilization”. Consultations in town for Covid have thus stopped increasing. However, at the hospital, emergency visits linked to the disease “have still seen their share increase slightly”, add the health authorities.

The seasonal flu epidemic spread in mid-December in France, spreading throughout the east of the metropolis, the public health agency announced on Wednesday. Finally, bronchiolitis is still very present, even if the virus has passed a peak.
