Mosquitoes are a plague for many and fortunately, there are now a lot of ways to keep them away from our innocent skin. However, researchers have found the perfect way to keep them away, in addition to being perfectly harmless to us.
A solution for all mosquito skin
They roam the night with a shrill noise, causing insomnia and discomfort until you fall asleep to enjoy your tasty skin: after which the itch begins… and nobody likes that. Needless to say, the mosquito is an insect that probably everyone hates (right?) and we are all looking for a way to keep them away.
There are indeed many ways to do this (which we had compiled for you here), but many unfortunately use insecticide and harmful components, with possible dangers for humans in the long term.
Researchers from the Japanese company KAO have just put a new way to get rid of it: a surfactant spray. We explain to you.
A real solution to get rid of mosquitoes… and diseases
The first thing to know is that mosquitoes are water resistant and can’t really get wet, which allows them to escape a lot of situations. Their body and their wings are covered with a kind of hydrophobic wax, which gave the laboratory the idea of creating a component between fat and water (which is therefore surfactant) capable of wetting mosquitoes.
Deemed safe for humans, these surfactants prove to be dreadful for mosquitoes: once wet, they simply begin to fall, unable to fly freely. In addition, the substance comes to cover their spiracles, these small bodily openings that allow them to absorb oxygen: they thus die of suffocation.

This surfactant spray, which it would suffice to apply to our skin, could solve many problems. We were talking above about everyone’s comfort, of course, but it could also be a way of preventing the many diseases carried by mosquitoes from being transmitted (this is a particularly deadly for humans, more than the shark!): moreover, they would therefore be safe for humans, unlike insecticides. In short, a great invention.
