There are happy coincidences in life and more particularly between a community and an association. “He does things well”, conceded Damienne Fleury, mayor of Yvré-l’Evêque. The story is simple and yet within a few days, solidarity action might not have taken place.
A container in March 2025
School equipment dating from the 1980s, mostly furniture, had been stored in the Chicottière premises for decades. Municipal employees requested its removal to make room. Good news falls from the sky. The president of the Espoirs association (Education and know-how contributing to reasoned industrialization objectives in Senegal) – the majority of whose members are from Sarthois – Jean-Michel Parent, sends a series of emails to town halls for donations of equipment school.

I took the town hall listings and added new ones,” he explains. When I received the email, I thought regarding the school materials in storage. It was ready to be put in the landfill. It comes from the Champ-Manon and Condorcet nursery and elementary schools,” says Damienne Fleury.
In total, forty-eight desks, around fifty chairs, and four large tables were handed over. They will join those already stored. The objective is to send a container to Senegal in March 2025, specifies the president.
This will be the twelfth since 2009. Jean-Michel Parent, as with every shipment, goes there himself to check that everything is going well. Files are sent to us. This visit allows us to confirm needs and discuss with the people who ask us.”
Humanitarian association
With its 124 members, the Espoirs association intervenes in education, training, professional integration and public health in Senegal. Actions are carried out along three main axes: recovery and sending of materials, twinning and correspondence, sponsorships and schooling. She works in Senegal in partnership with the NGO Alphade and the association Les petitsAnges Verts.

A call is launched
An appeal is being launched to communities which would change the furniture in schools, or have old school furniture, like the commune of Yvré-l’Évêque.
So, that day, in the morning the volunteers dismantled the desk legs and in the followingnoon they loaded the equipment. “It’s a good solidarity action and a second life for all this equipment”concluded Damienne Fleury.
