ACAPULCO.— The director of the Road Police of the port of Acapulco, Eduardo Chávez Manzanares, was murdered yesterday in the middle of the wave of political violence that Mexico faces heading into the June 2 elections.

A group of men, not yet identified, shot the official to death outside his home in the Fifth Stage area of ​​Infonavit Alta Progreso, reported the Secretariat of Public Security of Acapulco.

Reports from the agency indicated that the attack occurred at 8:40 local time when the director left his house and got into his patrol car to go to work.
