The Argentine Javier Milei, the Chilean José Antonio Kast and the Brazilian Eduardo Bolsonaro held a meeting on the sidelines of the US Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
“Now at CPAC, the world’s largest conservative event, with the future presidents of Argentina, Javier Milei, and of Chile, José Antonio Kast”, Eduardo Bolsonaro wrote.the son of the Brazilian president on his Twitter account. The message was accompanied by a photo in which the three appear making a gesture already characteristic of the Bolsonaros.
Simultaneously, the Chilean, former presidential candidate, also uploaded another postcard of the meeting. “Latin America is in danger! Long live Freedom Damn!” she wrote. On that occasion, they chose -as Kast himself said- “the Milei style”with thumbs up.
Deputy Bolsonaro has had a close relationship with Kast for years and actively supported his candidacy in Chile once morest the leftist Gabriel Boric. “He is a patriot, well connected internationally and a stone in the shoe of the Sao Paulo Forum,” he had said of Kast before the ballotage in which the former student leader finally won.
The son of the Brazilian president also supports Milei in his campaign for the Argentine presidential elections, scheduled for 2023. In fact, Eduardo Bolsonaro personally went to look for the Argentine at the airport to escort him to the event where he will speak this Sunday. “Welcome Javier Milei, we also want freedom, damn it,” he said in a video that both the Brazilian and the Argentine uploaded to their social networks.
The event, organized by Eduardo Bolsonaro in Capinas, São Paulo, is inspired by the mega-conference of the same name that has been taking place in the United States since the 1970s.. This is the third time that it is celebrated in Brazil and the second under the organization of the Conservative-Liberal Institute, a think tank of deputy Bolsonaro.
This year’s conference is sponsored by the Soybean and Corn Producers Association of Mato Grosso do Sul (Aprosoja) and Gettr (a messaging app created by former adviser to US President Donald Trump, Jason Miller).
The original edition of CPAC was created in 1973 by the American Conservative Union and Young Americans for Freedom. It is currently the largest conservative event in the United States. “At the heart of the conference are the values defended by both entities, such as the defense of the 1787 Constitution, the strengthening of national sovereignty, and the belief that only governments with limited power are capable of guaranteeing individual freedom,” say its creators.
Throughout its existence, the CPAC has brought together the greatest exponents of the American conservative right. The event has recently received important names such as former President Donald Trump and the British Nigel Farage who, at the head of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) in 2016, articulated a strong campaign in favor of the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (BREXIT). .
In addition to the US and Brazilian editions, CPAC has expanded to other countries such as Australia, Hungary, Israel, Mexico, South Korea, and Japan.
