  • Provea reported that the humanitarian worker’s family visited the main detention centers in Caracas in search of information.

Edni López’s relatives have reported that they still do not know the whereabouts of the humanitarian worker, 24 hours after her disappearance.

The Venezuelan Education-Action Program (Provea) indicated in a publication by X that the family has not heard from Edni since Sunday, August 4 at 10:00 am, just after authorities at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía prevented him from boarding a scheduled flight.

The NGO said this is not the first such attack on members of civil society following the results of the July 28 presidential election.

He recalled that on Saturday, August 3, he was held incommunicado to LGBTIQ+ rights activist and defender Yendri Velázquez for more than six hours. The activist was also detained at Maiquetía airport and was not allowed to board a flight on that occasion either.

Their relatives toured the detention centers in Caracas

Edni López’s relatives told Provea that they visited the main detention centers in the city of Caracas in search of information about the university professor. However, the officials at the respective centers did not provide details about the missing woman.

According to the NGO, Edni’s family asked about her at the Military Counterintelligence Directorate (DGCIM) in Boleíta, the Police Investigation Directorate in Maripérez and the headquarters of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) in Plaza Venezuela and El Helicoide.

The humanitarian worker’s relatives said they are worried about her health because she has diabetes and they do not know if she has access to her medication. They insisted that it is a priority to locate her in order to give her medication and check on her health.
