The candidate of the Unitary Platform, Edmundo González Urrutia, revealed that he will begin his presidential campaign at the end of May and explained that the coordinator of Vente Venezuela, María Corina Machado, along with other opposition leaders, continue to organize events throughout the country to promote the opposition’s efforts.
Urrutia González said in an interview with the AP agency that one of the most important things that is experienced today is that political activities with the people are carried out with enthusiasm by the citizens, since in his opinion “Those feelings of joy, of a democratic celebration, are awakening”.
Asked about what role Machado would play in a possible government, González Urrutia stressed that it is still “premature” to think where he would be, emphasizing that the most important thing now is that the factors that make up the Unity are moving in the same direction.
He stressed that he has never opted for elected office and that he has not participated in Venezuelan partisan politics for the selection of positions through voting.I accepted it with enormous responsibility and as a contribution on my part to the democratization of the country, to the process of trying to seek understanding, reconciliation, among Venezuelans.“, he reiterated.
He also stressed that his experience as an ambassador, which took him to countries such as El Salvador, Algeria and Argentina, has prepared him to cope with the political crisis in Venezuela.
“They are also situations that teach one to live in stressful situations, in dangerous situations, in risky situations, in situations where personal insecurity is evident (…) So yes, in that sense they are experiences that help you to manage yourself, to function in an environment that is complicated and difficult.“l,” he said.
